Abstract
A calibration system is disclosed for calibrating a first physiological monitoring device using a second physiological monitoring device. The first physiological monitor measures a first indication of a physiological parameter. The second physiological monitor measures a second indication of the physiological parameter. The first and second indications are used to calibrate the first physiological monitoring device.

A system for scheduling calibration of a physiological monitoring device, the system comprising:
- a measurement module comprising one or more hardware processors that:
- obtains noninvasive physiological parameter measurements from a sensor when the sensor is coupled to a patient;
- and
- a calibration module comprising one or more hardware processors that:
- receives an alternative physiological measurement for the patient;
- selects a noninvasive physiological parameter measurement occurring at a same or substantially same time as the alternative physiological measurement;
- determines a suggested wait interval for a subsequent calibration measurement based at least in part on one or more of:
- (i) a count of comparisons indicating similarity within a predetermined similarity threshold, and
- (ii) a result of a comparison between the alternative physiological measurement and the selected noninvasive physiological parameter measurement;
- and
- schedules the subsequent calibration measurement using the suggested wait interval by setting a next calibration time in memory of the physiological monitoring device and updating a calibration status indicator.
A system that applies a calibration update to noninvasive physiological parameter measurements, the system comprising:
- a measurement module comprising one or more hardware processors that:
- obtains the noninvasive physiological parameter measurements from a sensor when the sensor is coupled to a patient;
- and
- a calibration module comprising one or more hardware processors that:
- receives, from an external source over a network, an alternative physiological measurement together with a timestamp;
- verifies that the timestamp is within a freshness window defined as a predetermined interval relative to a device time;
- and
- responsive to verifying the timestamp is within the freshness window, selects a noninvasive physiological parameter measurement occurring at a same or substantially the same time as the alternative physiological measurement and applies a calibration update based at least in part on a difference between the selected noninvasive physiological parameter measurement and the alternative physiological measurement, and
- outputs an indication of an age of the alternative physiological measurement.
A calibration management system configured to improve a calibration setting for a physiological monitor for a patient, the system comprising:
- one or more hardware processors configured to:
- receive, over time, alternative physiological measurements for the patient;
- aggregate the alternative physiological measurements to compute per-patient aggregate calibration data;
- and
- determine an average offset applicable to the calibration setting of a physiological monitor for the patient;
- and
- a communication interface configured to:
- provide calibration information based at least in part on the average offset for application by the physiological monitor.
