Bed with skin temperature variability estimations

A method for determining sleep apnea risk, the method comprising:

• receiving a pressure stream of sensed pressure applied to a bed by a user on the bed from a pressure sensor in a bed system;
• receiving a plurality of datastreams of sensed temperature from a plurality of temperature sensors arranged across the bed;
• estimating, using the datastreams of the sensed temperature, a sequence of skin temperatures for a user of the bed;
• identify, using the pressure stream, one or more sleep sessions for the user sleeping on the bed;
• selecting skin temperature values that occur during the one or more sleep sessions;
• determining, based on the selected skin temperature values, a skin temperature variability for the user of the bed;
• and
• determining that the user has a sleep apnea risk if the skin temperature variability is above a predetermined threshold.

A system comprising:

• a computing system comprising one or more processors and memory, the computing system configured to:
• receive a first data stream from a first sensor;
• receive a plurality of datastreams of sensed temperature from a plurality of temperature sensors;
• estimate, using the datastreams of the sensed temperature, a sequence of skin temperatures for a user of a bed;
• determine, based on the sequence of skin temperatures, a skin temperature variability for the user of the bed;
• and
• determine that the user has a sleep apnea risk if the skin temperature variability is above a predetermined threshold, wherein the skin temperature variability for the user is inversely proportional to an AHI for the user.
