Spatial Audio Representation and Rendering

An apparatus comprising:

• at least one processor;
• and
• at least one memory storing instructions that, when executed with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus at least to:
• obtain at least one signal, wherein the at least one signal comprises one or more transport audio signals and metadata associated with the one or more transport audio signals;
• determine a mixing matrix based, at least partially, on the metadata and a target transport audio signal type;
• and
• mix the one or more transport audio signals to determine one or more processed transport audio signals using, at least, the mixing matrix;
• determine one or more prototype signals based, at least partially, on the one or more processed transport audio signals and the target transport audio signal type;
• and
• generate one or more spatial audio signals based, at least partially, on the one or more prototype signals.

A method comprising:

• obtaining at least one signal, wherein the at least one signal comprises one or more transport audio signals and metadata associated with the one or more transport audio signals;
• determining a mixing matrix based, at least partially, on the metadata and a target transport audio signal type;
• and
• mixing the one or more transport audio signals to determine one or more processed transport audio signals using, at least, the mixing matrix;
• determining one or more prototype signals based, at least partially, on the one or more processed transport audio signals and the target transport audio signal type;
• and
• generating one or more spatial audio signals based, at least partially, on the one or more prototype signals.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising program instructions stored thereon for performing at least the following:

• causing obtaining of at least one signal, wherein the at least one signal comprises one or more transport audio signals and metadata associated with the one or more transport audio signals;
• determining a mixing matrix based, at least partially, on the metadata and a target transport audio signal type;
• and
• causing mixing of the one or more transport audio signals to determine one or more processed transport audio signals using, at least, the mixing matrix;
• determining one or more prototype signals based, at least partially, on the one or more processed transport audio signals and the target transport audio signal type;
• and
• causing generating of one or more spatial audio signals based, at least partially, on the one or more prototype signals.
