The present disclosure relates to a method for initializing a hardware token for sharing of a digital key in a digital access system for a vehicle, comprising providing on the hardware token a hardware token management applet, a hardware token instance CA comprising a hardware token instance CA certificate, wherein the instance CA certificate is issued by a device CA. The present disclosure also relates to a system for carrying out this method and to a hardware token.

A method for initializing a hardware token for sharing of a digital key in a digital access system for a vehicle, comprising:
- providing, on the hardware token,
- a hardware token management applet, and
- a hardware token instance certificate authority (CA) comprising a hardware token instance CA certificate,
- wherein the instance CA certificate is issued by a device CA.
A system for securely sharing a digital key configured to access a vehicle and initializing a hardware token for sharing of the digital key in a digital access system for the vehicle, the system comprising:
- a server and/or a backend system;
- and
- the hardware token including:
- a memory configured to store an applet;
- and
- a processor configured to execute the applet to perform:
- providing, on the hardware token, a hardware token management applet and a hardware token instance certificate authority (CA) comprising a hardware token instance CA certificate, wherein the instance CA certificate is issued by a device CA.
A hardware token for securely sharing a digital key configured to access a vehicle and initializing the hardware token for sharing of the digital key in a digital access system for the vehicle, the hardware token comprising:
- a memory configured to store an applet;
- and
- a processor configured to execute the applet to perform:
- providing, on the hardware token, a hardware token management applet and a hardware token instance certificate authority (CA) comprising a hardware token instance CA certificate, wherein the instance CA certificate is issued by a device CA.
