Abstract
A method for measuring a twist of an optical fiber is a method for measuring the twist of an optical fiber being drawn. The method includes irradiating the optical fiber with light beams from a plurality of irradiation positions spaced apart along a traveling direction of the optical fiber; detecting intensity distributions of the light beams, with which the optical fiber is irradiated and which are transmitted through the optical fiber, at a plurality of detection positions corresponding to the plurality of irradiation positions; and calculating the twist of the optical fiber based on the intensity distributions which are detected.
Claims10
A method for measuring a twist of an optical fiber being drawn, the method comprising:
- irradiating the optical fiber with light beams from a plurality of irradiation positions spaced apart along a traveling direction of the optical fiber;
- detecting intensity distributions of the light beams, with which the optical fiber is irradiated and which are transmitted through the optical fiber, at a plurality of detection positions corresponding to the plurality of irradiation positions;
- and
- calculating the twist of the optical fiber based on the intensity distributions which are detected.
A method for manufacturing an optical fiber comprising:
- melting an optical fiber preform by heating to draw an optical fiber;
- measuring a twist of the optical fiber being drawn;
- and
- applying a twist that cancels the measured twist to the optical fiber being drawn, wherein
- the measuring step includes
- irradiating the optical fiber with light beams from a plurality of irradiation positions spaced apart along a traveling direction of the optical fiber,
- detecting intensity distributions of light beams, with which the optical fiber is irradiated and which are transmitted through the optical fiber, at a plurality of detection positions corresponding to the plurality of irradiation positions, and calculating the twist of the optical fiber based on the intensity distributions which are detected.
