Abstract
A thermoelectric module that is removable from a lid of a thermoelectric portable cooler. The modular thermoelectric apparatus includes a housing and a thermoelectric module disposed within the housing. The housing is coupled to a inner fan shroud with a warm air inlet and a cold air outlet. The housing is adapted to be removably coupled to a lid or a sidewall of a portable cooler.

A modular thermoelectric apparatus, comprising:
- a thermoelectric module disposed within a housing, the thermoelectric module having a cold side and a hot side;
- the housing sized and shaped to be received by an opening formed along a lid or a sidewall of a portable cooler, the housing containing the thermoelectric module distinctly from said lid or said sidewall, and the housing adapted to be removably coupled thereto:
- an outer fan shroud comprising a hot air outlet, the hot air outlet thermally coupled to the hot side of the thermoelectric module;
- and
- an inner fan shroud comprising a warm air inlet and a cold air outlet, the cold air outlet thermally coupled to the cold side of the thermoelectric module;
- said outer fan shroud and said inner fan shroud enclosing said housing, said outer fan shroud being larger than said inner fan shroud;
- said opening comprising an outer perimeter and an inner perimeter which is smaller than said outer perimeter, a step disposed between said outer perimeter and said inner perimeter wherein said housing engages said step;
- wherein a first fan and a second fan are axially aligned along a common axis, and a first heat sink and a second heat sink are offset from said common axis of said first fan and said second fan, and further wherein said housing encloses said first fan and said first heat sink and said second fan and said second heat sink.

A thermoelectric portable cooler, comprising:
- an insulated body comprising a base and a sidewall extending upwardly from a perimeter of the base defining a cavity therein;
- a lid that is movable relative to the body and enclosing the cavity of the body, said lid comprising an opening having a first perimeter and a second perimeter wherein said second perimeter is smaller than said first perimeter, and further comprising a step disposed between said first perimeter and said second perimeter;
- and
- a modular thermoelectric apparatus in fluid communication with the opening of the sidewall to provide cooling within the cavity;
- said modular thermoelectric apparatus having a housing which encloses a first heat sink and a second heat sink, said first heat sink being offset from a first fan and said second heat sink being offset from a second fan within said housing, said first fan and said second fan being co-axial;
- an outer air shroud engaging said lid and raised relative to said lid, an inner air shroud facing said cavity, said housing located between said outer and inner air shrouds, said outer air shroud being larger than said inner air shroud and wherein said housing engages said step;
- said first heat sink and said first fan enclosed by said outer air shroud, and said second heat sink and said second fan enclosed by said inner air shroud;
- wherein the modular thermoelectric apparatus is removably coupled to the sidewall.

A thermoelectric portable cooler, comprising:
- an insulated lid;
- an insulated body, the insulated body comprising a base and a sidewall extending from said base, said base and said sidewall defining a cavity, the lid movable relative to the body to open or close access to said cavity;
- an opening disposed in said lid or said sidewall of said body, said opening having an outer perimeter at an outer surface of said lid or said body and an inner perimeter at an inner surface of said lid or said body, said outer perimeter being larger than said inner perimeter, said opening having a step transition between said outer perimeter and said inner perimeter;
- a housing located in said opening and covering said opening about said outer perimeter, an outer fan shroud on an outer side of said lid or said body and an inner fan shroud on an inner side of said lid or said body closer to said cavity, wherein said outer side is a hot side and said inner side is a cold side;
- a modular thermoelectric apparatus disposed within said housing to control temperature of said cavity within said body, said modular thermoelectric apparatus in fluid communication with the opening of the lid or the body to provide cooling within the cavity, said modular thermoelectric apparatus having an outer fan and an inner fan axially aligned with said outer fan, an outer heat sink laterally spaced from said outer fan and an inner heat sink laterally spaced from said inner fan;
- said outer heat sink and said outer fan enclosed by said outer fan shroud, and said inner heat sink and said inner fan enclosed by said inner fan shroud;
- said housing being removably connected to said lid or said body.
