Abstract
A coupling element includes at least one coupling member having a first end and a proximal end, wherein the coupling member has a flat face on a first side thereof, at least one barb extending in cantilever manner from the flat face and depending away from the first end so as to hinder or prevent the removal of the coupling element from a bore in a surface of a first article into which the coupling member has been inserted from the first end.

A coupling element comprising:
- a dowel pin having a first end, a second end opposite said first end, and first and second opposing sides extending between said first and second ends;
- a first plurality of barbs disposed successively along said dowel pin from said first end, said first plurality of barbs comprising a first set;
- said first side having a flat face with said first set of said first plurality of barbs disposed successively therealong and extending in a cantilever manner therefrom, and depending away from said first end so as to hinder or prevent removal of said dowel pin from a bore in a surface of a first article into which said first end of said dowel pin has been inserted;
- and
- said second side having a curved face with either (i) a second set of said first plurality of barbs, or (ii) a plurality of ridges or projections, disposed successively along said curved face.
