Abstract
A stringer connector for rigidly connecting staircase stringers together. The stringer connector is a channel having a base with tabs extending inward from the base for physically locating the stringers in the channel. Openings are formed through walls of the channel for insertion of fasteners through the stringers. A base surface of the channel preferably further comprises a plurality of ridges extending inwards from respective ends of the channel to separate the stringers from the base surface, the base preferably further comprises a bracket for attaching the stringer connector to an intermediate support structure. A staircase constructed using the stringer connector is also included.
Claims25
A stringer connector for rigidly connecting a first stringer to a second stringer in a staircase, said stringer connector comprising:
- a base;
- two side walls extending from said base, wherein said base and said side walls define, at least in part, a channel having a first end and a second end, and wherein said channel is adapted to receive said first stringer at said first end and said second stringer at said second end;
- a first tab extending into said channel from said base, said first tab limiting a first depth of insertion of said first stringer;
- a second tab extending into said channel from said base, said second tab limiting a second depth of insertion of said second stringer;
- a plurality of openings extending through both of said side walls and adapted to receive a plurality of fasteners for securing said first and second stringers to said stringer connector.
A staircase comprising:
- a plurality of laterally spaced apart stringer assemblies, each of said stringer assemblies comprising:
- a first stringer;
- a second stringer;
- a stringer connector, said stringer connector comprising:
- a base;
- two side walls extending from said base, wherein said base and said side walls define, at least in part, a channel having a first end and a second end,
- a first tab extending into said channel from said base;
- a second tab extending into said channel from said base;
- and
- a plurality of openings, each opening extending through both of said side walls;
- and
- a plurality of fasteners;
- wherein:
- said first stringer is received in said channel from said first end and contacts at least one of said first tab and said second stringer;
- said second stringer is received in said channel from said second end and contacts at least one of said second tab and said first stringer;
- at least a first fastener of said plurality of fasteners received in a first opening of said plurality of openings and extending through said first stringer;
- and
- at least a second fastener of said plurality of fasteners received in a second opening of said plurality of openings and extending through said second stringer;
- and
- one or more treads extending across and connecting said stringer assemblies.
