Surface cleaning apparatus

A hand vacuum cleaner having front end having a dirty air inlet, a handle positioned rearward of the dirty air inlet and a rear end, the hand vacuum cleaner comprising:

• (a) an air flow path extending from the dirty air inlet to a clean air outlet;
• (b) an air treatment assembly provided in the air flow path, the air treatment assembly comprising an air treatment chamber, the air treatment assembly having a front end comprising a front end wall, an axially opposed rear end comprising a rear end wall, an air treatment chamber axis extending in an axial direction from the front end wall to the rear end wall and a sidewall extending in the axial direction between the front and rear ends;
• and,
• (c) a suction motor provided in the air flow path,
• wherein the air treatment assembly has a first clam shell portion and a second clam shell portion, the first clam shell portion is rotatably mounted with respect the second clam shell portion by a rotational mount between a closed position and an open position in which a dirt collection region of the air treatment assembly is open.
