Disclosed herein are systems, methods and devices for the continuous production and processing of compounds, including biopharmaceutical compounds. The system and devices are operated in an automated manner and capable of operation under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)-compliant conditions.

A cartridge comprising one or more reaction chambers for producing a nucleic acid, each reaction chamber comprising
- a bottom portion,
- a body portion comprising an inner volume configured to hold at least one reagent,
- and an open end configured to receive the at least one reagent;
- wherein a transverse cross-section of the body portion comprises a polygonal shape.

A cartridge comprising:
- (a) a support plate;
- and
- (b) a plurality of reaction chambers carried by the support plate, each reaction chamber having:
- (i) an open end at the support plate;
- and
- (ii) an elongated body portion extending away from the support plate,
- wherein the elongated body portion has a polygonal cross-section, preferably a hexagonal cross-section, over at least a majority of its length.
