Abstract
Systems, device and methods treat target tissue to provide a therapeutic benefit to the patient. A tissue treatment device comprises a tissue treatment element constructed and arranged to treat target tissue, such as duodenal mucosa tissue.
Claims22
A method of ablating mucosal tissue in a patient's duodenum to provide a therapeutic benefit to the patient, the method comprising:
- conducting a treatment procedure comprising:
- introducing an ablation device into the patient's duodenum distal to an ampulla of Vater of the patient, the ablation device comprising an elongate shaft with a tissue treatment element attached to the elongate shaft;
- ablating, with the tissue treatment element, a cumulative axial length of at least 4 cm of the mucosal tissue of the patient distal to the ampulla of Vater by sequentially ablating mucosal tissue at a plurality of locations in the patient's duodenum distal to the ampulla of Vater.
A method of ablating mucosal tissue in a patient's duodenum to provide a therapeutic benefit to the patient, the method comprising:
- conducting a first treatment, the first treatment comprising,
- introducing an ablation device into the patient's gastrointestinal tract, the ablation device comprising an elongate shaft with a tissue treatment element attached to the elongate shaft;
- advancing the ablation device to a first location in the patient's duodenum;
- ablating mucosal tissue at the first location in the patient's duodenum using the tissue treatment element;
- after ablating mucosal tissue at the first location, moving the ablation device to a second location in the patient's duodenum;
- and
- ablating mucosal tissue at the second location in the patient's duodenum
- wherein the first location and the second location are distal to the patient's ampulla of Vater, and
- wherein the method comprises ablating a cumulative length of at least 4 cm of the mucosal tissue distal to the patient's ampulla of Vater in the patient's duodenum by ablating additional locations after ablating mucosal tissue at the first and second locations.
