Abstract
The embodiments set forth a technique for enabling a computing device to securely communicate with a peripheral computing device. According to some embodiments, the method can include the steps of (1) receiving, at a detection sensor of the computing device, a light signal from the peripheral computing device, wherein the light signal is received at a first frequency that is higher than a second frequency capable of being detected by a camera system of the computing device, (2) extracting information from the light signal, and (3) performing an operation using the information.
Claims16
A method, comprising:
- at a peripheral computing device that is in communication with a light output device:
- detecting a computing device within a proximity to the peripheral computing device;
- and
- in response to detecting the computing device within the proximity to the peripheral computing device:
- in accordance with a determination that a first set of one or more criteria is satisfied:
- encoding, into a first light signal, first information corresponding to the peripheral computing device;
- and
- transmitting, via the light output device, the first light signal;
- and
- in accordance with a determination that a second set of one or more criteria is satisfied:
- encoding, into a second light signal, second information corresponding to the peripheral computing device, wherein the second light signal is different from the first light signal, and wherein the second information is different from the first information;
- and
- transmitting, via a light output device, the second light signal, wherein the second set of one or more criteria is different from the first set of one or more criteria.
A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising computer-executable instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a peripheral computing device that is in communication with a light output device, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
- detecting a computing device within a proximity to the peripheral computing device;
- in response to detecting the computing device within the proximity to the peripheral computing device:
- in accordance with a determination that a first set of one or more criteria is satisfied:
- encoding, into a first light signal, first information corresponding to the peripheral computing device;
- and
- transmitting, via the light output device, the first light signal;
- and
- in accordance with a determination that a second set of one or more criteria is satisfied:
- encoding, into a second light signal, second information corresponding to the peripheral computing device, wherein the second light signal is different from the first light signal, and wherein the second information is different from the first information;
- and
- transmitting, via a light output device, the second light signal, wherein the second set of one or more criteria is different from the first set of one or more criteria.
A peripheral computing device, comprising:
- a light output device;
- a memory configured to store computer-executable instructions;
- and
- one or more processors in communication with the memory and configured to access the memory and execute the computer-executable instructions to, at least:
- detecting a computing device within a proximity to the peripheral computing device;
- in response to detecting the computing device within the proximity to the peripheral computing device:
- in accordance with a determination that a first set of one or more criteria is satisfied:
- encoding, into a first light signal, first information corresponding to the peripheral computing device;
- and
- transmitting, via the light output device, the first light signal;
- and
- in accordance with a determination that a second set of one or more criteria is satisfied:
- encoding, into a second light signal, second information corresponding to the peripheral computing device, wherein the second light signal is different from the first light signal, and wherein the second information is different from the first information;
- and
- transmitting, via a light output device, the second light signal, wherein the second set of one or more criteria is different from the first set of one or more criteria.
