Abstract
A method of paneling a can end includes providing a sheet material with a base thickness and forming the material into a shell. An upper panel insert is placed in an upper tooling assembly. The upper panel insert has a perimeter with a rounded edge. The rounded edge has a pair of side portions of the perimeter corresponding to the rivet button. The pair of side portions have a smaller radius than the remaining portions of the upper panel insert. A lower panel cap placed in a lower tooling assembly. The shell is paneled between the upper panel insert and the lower panel cap. Finishing operations are performed on the can end.
