1-22. (canceled)
A composition comprising Crinum latifolium L. var. crilae Tram & Khanh cultivar dry extract and dry epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), such that upon administration of the composition to a patient, the cultivar has a maximum serum concentration of between 100 μg/mL of and 1000 μg/mL, and EGCG has a maximum serum concentration of between 10 μM and 50 μM.
A method of:
- i) upregulating BAX mRNA expression in a cell or in a patient in need thereof;
- or
- ii) reducing PCNA expression in a cell or in a patient in need thereof;
- or
- iii) depressing HuLM cell growth in a tissue or in a patient in need thereof;
- the method comprising the steps of
- a) if the method is performed on a patient, identifying a patient in need thereof;
- b) administering to the cell, tissue, or the identified patient a composition comprising Crinum latifolium L. var. crilae Tram & Khanh cultivar dry extract and dry epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), such that upon administration of the composition to a patient, the cultivar has a maximum serum concentration of between 100 μg/mL of and 1000 μg/mL, and EGCG has a maximum serum concentration of between 10 M and 50 M.
A method of obtaining Crinum latifolium L. var. crilae Tram & Khanh cultivar dry extract, the method comprising:
- adding the dried leaves to a solvent to obtain a first slurry;
- optionally pressing or rolling the first slurry to obtain a second slurry;
- fermenting the first slurry or, if obtained, the second slurry;
- performing an extraction step on the fermented slurry to obtain an extracted mixture;
- and
- removing the solvent from the extracted mixture.
