A system generates panoramic images of a patient from multiple two-dimensional x-ray projection images. The system includes an x-ray source, x-ray detector, and x-ray collimator with a variable aperture size. The aperture defines an exposure region on the detector with corresponding variable size. A controller defines a focal curve relative to the patient's oral cavity, following the jawbone shape with molar and incisal regions. The focal curve has predefined thickness exceeding the teeth size to be imaged. The controller acquires images by rotating the source, collimator, and detector around the patient's head along a predefined trajectory, with the collimator positioned between the patient and source. During acquisition, the aperture width continuously varies, using a wider aperture for the molar region and narrower aperture for the incisal region. Simultaneously, the detector's readout region continuously varies horizontally to equal or exceed the variable exposure region size.
A system for generating a panoramic image of a patient from a plurality of two-dimensional x-ray projection images of the patient, the system comprising:
A method for generating a panoramic image of a patient from a plurality of two-dimensional x-ray projection images of the patient, the method comprising:
A computer-readable medium for generating a panoramic image of a patient from a plurality of two-dimensional x-ray projection images of the patient, the computer-readable medium storing instructions, that when executed by a computing unit, cause the computing unit to execute operations, the operations comprising:
