Magnetic reorientation for securing playback devices

A first playback device comprising:

• at least one processor;
• a communication interface configured to facilitate communication via at least one communication protocol;
• a power transfer coil configured to provide inductive power transfer between the first playback device and a second playback device;
• one or more dock magnets configured to align and secure the first playback device to the second playback device, wherein the one or more dock magnets are configured to provide reorientation of magnetic polarity based on a magnetic polarity orientation of one or more device magnets located in the second playback device;
• wherein the first playback device is compatible with a plurality of device types including a first device type having a first magnet orientation and a second device type having a second magnet orientation, and the one or more dock magnets are configured to reorient based on whether the first playback device has the first magnet orientation or the second magnet orientation;
• and
• at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising program instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the first playback device is configured to:
• receive, via the communication interface, one or more channels of multi-channel audio content from the second playback device;
• and
• play back the one or more channels of multi-channel audio content.

A system comprising:

• a first device;
• a second device;
• the first device including:
• a power transfer coil configured to transfer power inductively between the first device and the second device;
• and
• one or more dock magnets configured to align and secure the second device to the first device during power transfer, wherein the one or more dock magnets are configured to provide reorientation of magnetic polarity based on a magnetic polarity orientation of one or more device magnets located in the second device;
• wherein the first device is compatible with a plurality of device types including a first device type having a first magnet orientation and a second device type having a second magnet orientation, and the one or more dock magnets are configured to reorient based on whether the first device has the first magnet orientation or the second magnet orientation.
