Abstract
A failure of a block among a set of blocks of a memory device of a memory sub-system is detected. Based on detecting the failure of the block, the block is evaluated for reuse. The block is designated for reuse based on a result of the evaluating of the block. The block is allocated to a task based on the block being designated for reuse.
Claims20
A memory sub-system comprising:
- a memory device comprising a set of blocks;
- and
- a processing device, operatively coupled with the memory device, to perform operations comprising:
- detecting a first failure of a block in the set of blocks;
- based on detecting the first failure of the block, evaluating the block for reuse;
- based on a result of the evaluating of the block, adding the block to a pool of failed blocks that are designated for reuse, from among multiple pools of failed blocks designated for reuse;
- allocating the block to a task, from among multiple tasks, based on the pool to which the block is added and a criticality level of the task;
- allocating the block to the task;
- detecting a second failure of the block;
- and
- based on detecting the second failure of the block, permanently retiring the block.
A method comprising:
- detecting a first failure of a block in a set of blocks of a memory device;
- based on detecting the first failure of the block, evaluating the block for reuse;
- based on a result of the evaluating of the block, adding the block to a pool of failed blocks that are designated for reuse, from among multiple pools of failed blocks designated for reuse;
- allocating the block to a task, from among multiple tasks, based on the pool to which the block is added and a criticality level of the task;
- allocating the block to the task;
- detecting a second failure of the block;
- and
- based on detecting the second failure of the block, permanently retiring the block.
A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed by a processing device, configure the processing device to perform operations comprising:
- detecting a first failure of a block in a set of blocks of a memory device;
- based on detecting the first failure of the block, evaluating the block for reuse;
- based on a result of the evaluating of the block, adding the block to a pool of failed blocks that are designated for reuse, from among multiple pools of failed blocks designated for reuse;
- allocating the block to a task, from among multiple tasks, based on the pool to which the block is added and a criticality level of the task;
- allocating the block to the task;
- detecting a second failure of the block;
- and
- based on detecting the second failure of the block, permanently retiring the block.
