The present disclosure provides a system for disinfecting fluid comprising a cylindrical outer electrode defining an internal cavity and a center electrode positioned within the cavity. The center electrode extends along the longitudinal axis and comprises an inner wire and outer shell surrounding the wire. An inlet at the first end allows fluid to enter the cavity. An outlet at the second end allows fluid to exit. A voltage source applies voltage across the electrodes. The outer electrode comprises copper and inner wire comprises stainless steel. The outer shell comprises copper electrodeposited from the outer electrode. First voltage polarity results in electrodeposition from outer electrode to outer shell, while opposite polarity results in ionization of the outer shell metal for disinfection.
