Abstract
A method for manufacturing a non-crimp fabric includes providing a plurality of layers of continuous fibers held together by stitch threads and applying a binder between adjacent layers of the plurality of layers of continuous fibers and on an outer layer of the plurality of layers of continuous fibers, wherein the binder has an activation temperature below a melting temperature of the stitch threads.
Claims21
A method for manufacturing a non-crimp fabric, comprising:
- providing a plurality of layers of continuous fibers held together by stitch threads;
- and
- applying a binder between adjacent layers of the plurality of layers of continuous fibers and on an outer layer of the plurality of layers of continuous fibers, wherein the binder has an activation temperature below a melting temperature of the stitch threads.
A non-crimp fabric, comprising:
- a plurality of layers of continuous fibers held together by stitch threads;
- and
- a binder structure between adjacent layers of the plurality of layers of continuous fibers and on an outer layer of the plurality of layers of continuous fibers, wherein the binder structure has an activation temperature below a melting temperature of the stitch threads.
A method for manufacturing a composite structure, the method comprising:
- providing one or more layers of non-crimp fabric, each layer of non-crimp fabric comprising a plurality of layers of continuous fibers held together by stitch threads and including a binder structure between adjacent layers of the plurality of layers of continuous fibers and on an outer layer of the plurality of layers of continuous fibers, wherein the binder structure has an activation temperature below a melting temperature of the stitch threads;
- arranging the one or more layers of non-crimp fabric to yield a preform having a preform shape;
- and
- heating the preform to a temperature between the activation temperature of the binder structure and the melting temperature of the stitch threads, thereby activating the binder structure and maintaining the preform shape.
