Abstract
An infant calming/sleep-aid/SIDS detection device is provided that includes a main moving platform that moves in a variable manner with accompanying variable sound generation, the sound and motion adapted to calm a fussy baby, induce sleep, and maintain sleep under normal conditions. The device may also have a sensor for detection of pauses in breathing and/or detection of resultant biological changes related to breathing pauses and respond with appropriate stimuli to arouse the baby and allow breathing to recommence.
Claims20
A method of inducing sleep or calming an infant, the method comprising:
- receiving, by a control system of an infant calming/sleep device, an input, wherein the infant calming/sleep device comprises a platform configured to support an infant and a motor operatively coupled to the platform;
- and
- responding to the input, wherein responding to the input comprises causing operation of the motor to impart an oscillating rotational motion to the platform, the oscillating rotational motion corresponding to a back-and-forth pivoting within a horizontal plane on a fixed axis normal to a major plane of the platform, wherein the major plane of the platform corresponds to a plane along which a surface of the platform for supporting the infant extends, and wherein the oscillating rotational motion is configured to induce sleep or calm the infant when supported on the surface of the platform.
A method of inducing sleep or calming an infant, the method comprising:
- positioning an infant on a platform of an infant calming/sleep device that includes a motor operably connected to the platform;
- and
- enabling operation of the infant calming/sleep device that causes the motor to engage in response to an input to impart motion to the platform, the motion comprising a back-and-forth pivoting within a horizontal plane, wherein the back-and-forth pivoting is relative to a fixed axis that intersects the platform.
A method inducing sleep or calming an infant, the method comprising:
- providing a control input signal to an infant calming/sleep device via interaction with a user interface, wherein the infant calming/sleep device comprises a platform configured to support an infant and a motor that operatively couples to the platform to impart an oscillating rotational motion to the platform, the oscillating rotational motion corresponding to a back-and-forth pivoting within a horizontal plane on a fixed axis normal to a major plane of the platform, and wherein the major plane of the platform corresponds to a plane along which a surface of the platform for supporting the infant extends, and wherein the control input signal or a subsequently received input causes the infant calming/sleep device to engage the motor to impart the oscillating rotational motion to calm the infant when supported on the surface of the platform.
