Abstract
Provided is a method for manufacturing a prosthesis for a fractured long bone of a patient. The method includes: providing data representative of the fractured long bone of the patient, the fractured long bone comprising a diaphyseal fragment comprising a medullary cavity; based on the data provided, designing the prosthesis specifically to the patient, wherein the prosthesis comprising a stem part configured to be inserted into the medullary cavity for securing the stem part to the diaphyseal fragment.
Claims20
A patient-specific prosthesis for a long bone, the patient-specific prosthesis comprising:
- a stem extending from a first end to a second end, the stem including:
- a first portion extending from the first end and being sized and configured to be received within a medullary canal of the long bone, and
- a second portion extending from the second end and being sized and configured to engage at least one of a fragment of the long bone or a prosthetic head,
- wherein the first portion of the stem is designed to apply a mechanical stress to at least one contact zone of the long bone when the first portion of the stem is disposed within the medullary canal of the long bone.
A patient-specific prosthesis for a long bone, the patient-specific prosthesis comprising:
- a stem extending from a first end to a second end, the stem including:
- a first portion extending from the first end and being sized and configured to be received within a medullary canal formed in a diaphysis of the long bone, and
- a second portion extending from the second end, the second end including at least one first visible mark for assisting in positioning at least one fragment of the long bone relative to the second portion of the stem,
- wherein the second portion of the stem is dimensioned and shaped to support the at least one fragment in a predetermined position relative to the diaphysis of the long bone.
A patient-specific prosthesis, comprising:
- a stem extending from a first end to a second end, the stem including:
- at least one first visible mark;
- a first portion extending from the first end of the stem to the at least one first visible mark, the first portion of the stem sized and configured to be received within a medullary canal formed in a diaphysis of a long bone;
- and
- a second portion extending from the second end of the stem to the at least one first visible mark;
- and
- a head portion configured to be coupled to the second portion of the stem, the head portion including:
- a cap including an articular surface;
- and
- an insert for coupling the cap to the second portion of the stem, the insert including a first surface configured to bear against a border surface of the cap and a second surface configured to bear against a surface of at least one fragment of the long bone.
