Abstract
A grasping device for use in a surgical procedure includes an actuator lever pivotably coupled to a housing portion, a non-linear shaft extending from the housing portion, and an elongated push rod having a proximal end couped to a portion of the actuation lever. The grasping device also includes a jaw assembly having a first jaw that is fixedly coupled to a portion of the distal end of the shaft, and a second jaw coupled to a distal end of the push rod such that the second jaw is displaceable relative to the first jaw and such that in the first rod position, the jaw assembly is in a first open position and in the second rod position, the jaw assembly in in a second closed position.
Claims14
A grasping device for use in a surgical procedure, the grasping device comprising:
- a housing portion;
- an actuator lever pivotably coupled to a first portion of the housing portion and displaceable between a first lever position to a second lever position;
- a shaft that extends from a proximal end to a distal end along a shaft axis, wherein one or more portions of the shaft are coupled to a second portion of the housing portion, wherein the shaft axis is non-linear, the shaft having one or more interior surfaces that defines an interior portion extending from the proximal end to the distal end of the shaft;
- an elongated push rod extending from a proximal end to a distal end, wherein a portion of the push rod is disposed within the interior portion of the shaft, and wherein a proximal end of the push rod is coupled to a first portion of the actuator lever and such that when the lever is in the first lever position, the push rod is in a first rod position and when the lever is pivoted to the second lever position, the push rod is in a second rod position in which the distal end of the push rod is displaced distally from the first position;
- and
- a jaw assembly disposed at or adjacent to the distal end of the shaft, the jaw assembly comprising:
- a first jaw fixedly coupled to a portion of the shaft at or adjacent to the distal end of the shaft;
- and
- a second jaw coupled to the distal end of the push rod such that the second jaw is displaceable relative to the first jaw and such that in the first rod position, the jaw assembly is in a first position and in the second rod position, the jaw assembly in in a second position.
