Abstract
A facility that controls participants in an ad hoc peer wireless network to use transmission power level settings and routing paths that best serve individual participants in the network and the network as a whole is described. Variously, the facility modulates transmission power levels to extend participant battery life and reduce the likelihood of radio interference in the network; establishes routing paths that contribute to the effectiveness and continuing operation of the network; and monitors for and responds to the occurrence of interference in the network's communications.

1-13. (canceled)
One or more instances of computer-readable media having contents configured to cause a first participant computing system to perform a method for operating in a wireless peer network having other participant computing systems including a second participant computing system, the method comprising:
- accessing a first data resource specifying a first sequence of participants via which to route messages from the first participant to the second participant;
- for each of a plurality of available routes from the first participant to the second participant, including a first route specified by the first data resource:
- accessing a second data resource indicating one or more participant energy consumption details applying to routing messages from the first participant to the second participant through the available route;
- identifying one of the plurality of available routes whose participant energy consumption details best satisfy a distinguished participant energy consumption criterion;
- and
- altering the first data resource to specify the identified route from the first participant to the second participant.
One or more instances of computer-readable media installed in a first participant computing system storing a wireless network routing data structure for a wireless peer network having other participant computing systems, the data structure comprising:
- a plurality of entries, each entry corresponding to a different destination participant, each entry comprising:
- first information identifying the destination participant to which the entry corresponds;
- and
- second information specifying a route from the first participant to the destination participant to which the entry corresponds,
- wherein, for each of one or more of the entries:
- the route specified by second information of the entry was selected as best satisfying a distinguished participant energy consumption criterion among a plurality of candidate routes to the destination participant identified by the first information of the entry,
- such that, for each of the destination participants, the second information of the entry whose first information identifies the destination participant is usable to route messages from the first participant to the destination participant.
28-32. (canceled)
A participant computing device, comprising:
- at least one memory configured to store computer instructions;
- and
- at least one processor configured to execute the computer instructions to:
- obtain information to send to a destination participant computing device;
- access a first data resource indicating a plurality of available routes from the participant computing device to the destination participant computing device;
- for each corresponding available route of the plurality of available routes from the first participant computing device to the destination participant computing device:
- access a second data resource indicating one or more participant energy consumption details applying to the corresponding route;
- identify a selected route from the plurality of available routes whose participant energy consumption details satisfy a distinguished participant energy consumption criterion;
- and
- send the information along the selected route to the destination participant computing device.
