Abstract
A scanning method in a wireless local area network (WLAN) system is provided. The scanning method includes transmitting by a station a probe request frame via a channel, and receiving by the station a probe response frame from a target access point (AP) to respond to the probe request frame. The probe request frame includes at least one of information regarding a response reception time and preference information regarding the target AP.
Claims20
An access point (AP) for facilitating communication in a wireless network, the AP comprising:
- a transceiver configured to:
- receive, from a station (STA), a probe request frame including an information element for fast initial link setup, the information element being used in determining whether the AP transmits a probe response frame in response to the probe request frame, the information element including a first information indicating a time to prevent the AP from transmitting the probe response frame in response to the probe request frame;
- and
- a processor operably coupled to the transceiver, the processor configured to:
- determine whether the time indicated in the first information has elapsed from reception of the probe request frame;
- and
- abstain from transmitting, to the STA, the probe response frame in response to the probe request frame based on a determination that the time indicated in the first information has elapsed from the reception of the probe request frame.
A station (STA) for facilitating communication in a wireless network, the STA comprising:
- a processor configured to:
- generate an information element for fast initial link setup based on a primitive requesting channel scanning, the information element including a first information indicating a time to prevent an access point (AP) from transmitting a probe response frame in response to the probe request frame;
- and
- generate a probe request frame including the information element;
- and
- a transceiver coupled to the processor, the transceiver configured to:
- transmit, to the AP, the probe request frame including the information element.
A method performed by an access point (AP) in a wireless network, the method comprising:
- receiving, from a station (STA), a probe request frame including an information element for fast initial link setup, the information element being used in determining whether the AP transmits a probe response frame in response to the probe request frame, the information element including a first information indicating a time to prevent the AP from transmitting the probe response frame in response to the probe request frame;
- determining whether the time indicated in the first information has elapsed from reception of the probe request frame;
- and
- abstaining from transmitting, to the STA, the probe response frame in response to the probe request frame based on a determination that the time indicated in the first information has elapsed from the reception of the probe request frame.
