Autonomous computer network route configuration based on scalable link speed metrics

A network fabric, comprising:

• a plurality of network devices, wherein each network device of the plurality of network devices comprises a processor and a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having stored thereon network configuration logic executable by the processor;
• wherein the network fabric performs operations of the network configuration logic stored at the plurality of network devices, the operations comprising:
• determining a first link speed of a first link between a first network device and a second network device of the plurality of network devices, wherein the first network device and the second network device are connected by a first physical cable;
• determining a first value of an inbound path preference attribute of a routing protocol for a subnet advertised by the first network device to the second network device based on the first link speed;
• determining a second link speed of a second link between the second network device and a third network device of the plurality of network devices, wherein the second network device and third network device are connected by a second physical cable;
• determining a second value of the inbound path preference attribute of the routing protocol for the subnet, wherein determining the second value is based on the first value and the second link speed;
• advertising, by the second network device, the subnet to the third network device based on the determined second value of the inbound path preference attribute;
• and
• configuring a routing table in the network fabric based on the determined second value of the inbound path preference attribute of the routing protocol.

A networking configuration method, comprising:

• receiving, by a first network device, from a second network device, an advertisement of a subnet, the advertisement comprising a first value of an inbound path preference attribute of a routing protocol;
• determining, by the first network device, a link speed of a link between the first network device and a third network device;
• determining, by the first network device, a second value of the inbound path preference attribute based on the determined link speed and the first value of the inbound path preference attribute;
• advertising, by the first network device, the subnet to the third network device in association with the second value of the inbound path preference attribute;
• determining, by the first network device, a value of an outbound path preference attribute of the routing protocol based on the first value of the inbound path preference attribute;
• adding, by the first network device, a routing entry corresponding to the second network device and the subnet and comprising the value of the outbound path preference attribute, to a routing table of the first network device;
• and
• routing, by the first network device, a data packet from the third network device to the second network device in accordance with the routing entry.
