Abstract
Methods, systems, and apparatus for receiving a natural language query of a user, and environmental data, identifying a media item based on the environmental data, determining an entity type based on the natural language query, selecting an entity associated with the media item that matches the entity type, selecting, from a media consumption database that identifies media items that have been indicated as consumed by the user, one or more media items that have been indicated as consumed by the user and that are associated with the selected entity, and providing a response to the query based on selecting the one or more media items that have been indicated as consumed by the user and that are associated with the selected entity.
Claims20
A computer-implemented method executing on data processing hardware that causes the data processing hardware to perform operations comprising:
- receiving information identifying a name of a movie playing on a user device associated with a user;
- while the user is currently viewing the movie playing on the user device:
- receiving a natural language query from the user that requests identification of a media item that has previously been consumed by the user, wherein the natural language query includes one or more terms that reference an entity type of an entity appearing in the movie that the user is currently viewing;
- identifying, as the entity appearing in the movie that the user is currently viewing, a name of a particular entity that matches the entity type and appears in the movie that the user is currently viewing;
- and
- selecting, from a media consumption database that identifies names of media items that are identified as having been previously consumed by the user, one or more previously consumed media items that are identified as having been previously consumed by the user and that are associated the name of the particular entity;
- and
- providing a response to the natural language query that identifies the selected one or more previously consumed media items.
A system comprising:
- data processing hardware;
- and
- memory hardware in communication with the data processing hardware and storing instructions that when executed on the data processing hardware cause the data processing hardware to perform operations comprising:
- receiving information identifying a name of a movie playing on a user device associated with a user;
- while the user is currently viewing the movie playing on the user device:
- receiving a natural language query from the user that requests identification of a media item that has previously been consumed by the user, wherein the natural language query includes one or more terms that reference an entity type of an entity appearing in the movie that the user is currently viewing;
- identifying, as the entity appearing in the movie that the user is currently viewing, a name of a particular entity that matches the entity type and appears in the movie that the user is currently viewing;
- and
- selecting, from a media consumption database that identifies names of media items that are identified as having been previously consumed by the user, one or more previously consumed media items that are identified as having been previously consumed by the user and that are associated the name of the particular entity;
- and
- providing a response to the natural language query that identifies the selected one or more previously consumed media items.
