Implementing a policy-based agent with plugin infrastructure

A system, comprising:

• at least one processor;
• memory in electronic communication with the at least one processor;
• and
• instructions stored in the memory, the instructions being executable by the at least one processor to:
• run a client agent on a client device, the client agent being configured to execute a plurality of functions on the client device, the client agent comprising:
• a first plugin and a second plugin associated with the plurality of functions, the first plugin and the second plugin being configured such that each plugin uses a respective thread of execution, and during execution, the threads of execution used by the first plugin and the second plugin being executed are isolated from each other;
• and
• a scheduler configured to trigger runtimes of the first plugin and the second plugin;
• implement an agent health monitor configured to track a first metric of resource consumption of the client agent;
• discontinue a scheduled runtime of the first plugin while allowing one or more scheduled runtimes of the second plugin;
• determine a first policy determination indicating that the client agent is not in violation of the agent policy when the scheduled runtime of the first plugin is discontinued;
• resume, by the scheduler and based on the first policy determination, the scheduled runtime for the first plugin;
• discontinue a scheduled runtime of the second plugin while allowing one or more scheduled runtimes of the first plugin;
• determine a second policy determination indicating that the client agent is in violation of the agent policy when the scheduled runtime of the second plugin is discontinued;
• and
• based on the first policy determination and the second policy determination, perform a corrective action associated with a determination that the first plugin is operating incorrectly.

A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions thereon that, when executed by at least one processor, causes a computing device to:

• run a client agent on a client device, the client agent being configured to execute a plurality of functions on the client device, the client agent comprising:
• a first plugin and a second plugin associated with the plurality of functions, the first plugin and the second plugin being configured such that each plugin uses a respective thread of execution, and during execution, the threads of execution used by the first plugin and the second plugin being executed are isolated from each other;
• and
• a scheduler configured to trigger runtimes of the first plugin and the second plugin;
• implement an agent health monitor configured to track a first metric of resource consumption of the client agent;
• discontinue a scheduled runtime of the first plugin while allowing one or more scheduled runtimes of the second plugin;
• determine a first policy determination indicating that the client agent is not in violation of the agent policy when the scheduled runtime of the first plugin is discontinued;
• resume, by the scheduler and based on the first policy determination, the scheduled runtime for the first plugin;
• discontinue a scheduled runtime of the second plugin while allowing one or more scheduled runtimes of the first plugin;
• determine a second policy determination indicating that the client agent is in violation of the agent policy when the scheduled runtime of the second plugin is discontinued;
• and
• based on the first policy determination and the second policy determination, perform a corrective action associated with a determination that the first plugin is operating incorrectly.
