Abstract
A lubrication system includes a first rotating shaft and a second rotating shaft. The first rotating shaft and the second rotating shaft are separated by a flowpath. The flowpath includes a fluid. The fluid is directed towards an outer surface of the first rotating shaft. The fluid thereafter moves towards the outer surface of a second rotating shaft. The seconds structure includes a recess configured to collect the fluid. The outer surface may include a protrusion. The protrusion is configured to direct fluid from the outer surface to the recess.
Claims19
A lubrication system for a gas turbine engine, comprising:
- a first rotating shaft having a first outer surface, the first rotating shaft configured to rotate about a central axis;
- a second rotating shaft having a second inner surface and a second outer surface, the second rotating shaft disposed radially outward of the first rotating shaft, the second rotating shaft configured to rotate about the central axis, the second inner surface including a recess;
- a flowpath between the first outer surface and the second inner surface;
- a lubricant directed into the flowpath, the lubricant in contact with the first outer surface;
- wherein the lubricant separates from the first outer surface through the flowpath and into the recess.
A lubrication system for a gas turbine engine, comprising:
- a first rotating shaft having a first outer surface, the first rotating shaft extending along a central axis, the first rotating shaft configured to rotate about the central axis, the first outer surface including a protrusion extending radially outward;
- a second rotating shaft having a second inner surface and a second outer surface, the second rotating shaft extending along the central axis, the second rotating shaft disposed radially outward of the first rotating shaft, the second rotating shaft configured to rotate about the central axis, the second inner surface including a recess;
- a flowpath between the first outer surface and the second inner surface;
- a lubricant directed into the flowpath, the lubricant in contact with the first outer surface;
- wherein the lubricant separates from the first outer surface through the flowpath and into the recess;
- and
- wherein the protrusion is spaced from the second inner surface by the flowpath, the protrusion positioned radially along the first outer surface between a first end of the recess and a second end of the recess.
