Construction block designs for a breeze block wall are disclosed, in which the resulting wall creates a Trompe l'oeil (optical illusion) response where the wall appears differently depending on a viewing angle. This is achieved via blocks with unique three-dimensional shapes giving rise to a wall whose front surface is not perfectly planar. The blocks are preferably three-or four-sided, include an interior space, and can be opened (e.g., at their tops) or closed. The orientations of the blocks can be changed both vertically and/or horizontally on the wall. Despite their irregular shapes, the blocks in the resulting wall can be contiguous (i.e., with the blocks in contact, perhaps through intermediary materials) both vertically and horizontally, and with breeze holes formed in the wall and defined by the interior spaces in the blocks.
