Abstract
Disclosed are peptides that differentially bind to analytes, and methods for obtaining the peptides. Disclosed are methods for determining binding of peptides to analytes by detecting nucleic acids that are associated with the peptides. Disclosed are methods for propagation and/or screening for the peptides by reconstruction of viruses encoding the peptides from nucleotide sequence information. Disclosed are kits containing reagents for performing the methods disclosed
Claims23
1-14. (canceled)
A method for quantifying an analyte on a surface of a cell, comprising:
- a. contacting a bacteriophage comprising a peptide and a nucleic acid with the cell, wherein the peptide can bind specifically to the analyte, to form a complex between the bacteriophage and the analyte;
- and
- b. quantifying an amount of the analyte in the complex by measuring an amount of the nucleic acid in the complex.

A method for monitoring cellular health or phenotype, comprising:
- contacting a cell with a bacteriophage having a peptide displayed on a surface of the bacteriophage, the peptide capable of binding to the cell based on cell identity, tissue type from which the cell is derived, cell age, cell passage number, cell density, composition of media in which the cell is grown, or cell culture conditions;
- and
- measuring an amount of nucleic acid from genomes of bacteriophage bound to the cell to determine binding of the peptide to the cell.
