Aerosol delivery system with enhanced air suspension

An aerosol droplet comprising:

• a propellant phase comprising:
• from 50 to 99 wt % of a first fluorinated alkene, and
• from 1 to 50 wt % of a second fluorinated alkene different from the first fluorinated alkene;
• and
• an additive dispersed within the propellant phase,
• wherein:
• the additive has a specific gravity in the range of 0.5 to 1.2;
• the additive is molecularly compatible with the propellant phase such that the additive has a partition coefficient in the range of −0.5 to 4.0 relative to the propellant phase;
• the additive has a water content of not more than 2 wt % based on the weight of the additive;
• and
• the aerosol droplet has a diameter in the range of up to 50 microns.

A method of generating an aerosol, the method comprising:

• providing an aerosol delivery system comprising a propellant mixture that includes:
• from 50 to 99 wt % of a first fluorinated alkene;
• from 1 to 50 wt % of a second fluorinated alkene different from the first fluorinated alkene;
• and
• up to 70 wt % of an additive;
• wherein the additive has:
• a specific gravity in the range of 0.5 to 1.2,
• a partition coefficient in the range of −0.5 to 4.0 relative to the propellant mixture, and
• a water content of not more than 2 wt % based on the weight of the additive;
• and dispensing the propellant mixture through an aerosol valve,
• thereby forming an aerosol comprising droplets having a mean diameter of 25 to 50 microns.
