A surgical system comprising a first motor unit configured for receiving therein, and actuating movement of, a first surgical flexible and/or articulated arm, a second motor unit configured for receiving therein, and actuating movement of, a second surgical flexible and/or articulated arm; The first motor unit and the second motor unit are positioned in a substantially parallel, side-by-side orientation along a longitudinal axis; the surgical system further comprises a linear actuator associated with at least one of the first motor unit or second motor unit, configured for linearly moving the respective motor unit relative to the other motor unit along the longitudinal axis.
