Abstract
A shoe rim cushion can protect an Achilles tendon of a user from injuries caused by rubbing of a heel collar of a shoe against the Achilles tendon. The rim cushion can be secured to the back of a shoe without adhesives through an internal biasing that can pinch the rim cushion onto the back of the shoe. The rim cushion can cover the rim of the heel collar so that the rim is unable to rub against the Achilles tendon. The rim cushion can include a double shield with a semi-rigid inner brace and a resilient cushioning pad that can disperse forces applied by the rim to the Achilles tendon.
Claims17
A footwear rim cushion comprising:
- an attachment hook, the attachment hook comprising:
- an inner brace;
- an apex;
- and
- an outer finger, wherein the inner brace and outer finger are biased towards each other;
- a cushioning pad affixed to the inner brace, the cushioning pad extending along the length of the inner brace and extending to at least the top of the apex.
A footwear rim cushion comprising:
- a double shield adapted to provide protection from a rim of a heel collar, the double shield comprising:
- an inner brace;
- and
- a cushioning pad, the cushioning pad affixed to the inner brace so that the inner brace can support the cushioning pad and keep the cushioning pad in the desired location, wherein the double shield is configured to protect an Achilles tendon of a user by dispersing forces from a rim of a heel collar along the inner brace, and by further dispersing forces from the inner brace through the cushioning pad, thereby reducing friction caused by forces from the rim.
A method of protecting an Achilles tendon comprising:
- inserting a double shield inside a shoe, the double shield having an inner brace and a cushioning pad, wherein the inner brace is adapted to diffuse forces applied by the rim of a heel collar of the shoe to the Achilles tendon, and wherein the cushioning pad is adapted to diffuse forces applied through the inner brace to the Achilles tendon;
- securing the rim cushion to the heel collar free from the use of adhesives by adjusting an outer finger of the rim cushion to pinch a back of the shoe between the outer finger and the inner brace;
- adjusting the rim cushion to ensure the double shield of the rim cushion is positioned over a rim of the heel collar to prevent the rim from excessively rubbing on the Achilles tendon.
