Abstract
Multimedia content segment identified by users may be shared among media devices and media device users. Media content segment metadata is generated based on one or more identified media content item segments identified in one or more media content items. The media content segment metadata may include, but is not limited to, information indicating segment start and stop times, information about the particular media content item (e.g., title, actors, original air date), and other user-provided descriptive information. A link for the media content segment metadata may be posted for display on a webpage and which enables other users to access the media content segment metadata.

A method comprising:
- receiving data from a client device indicating user interface input entered via a first user interface, wherein the user interface input is associated with a content item;
- determining for each portion of a plurality of portions of the content item a respective associated volume of user interaction, wherein user interactions of each respective associated volume of user interaction are received from a plurality of client devices;
- based at least in part on the determining the respective associated volume of user interaction for each portion of the plurality of portions of the content item, selecting one or more portions of the plurality of portions of the content item, wherein the selected one or more portions of the plurality of portions of the content item comprises less than an entirety of the content item;
- determining metadata identifying a start point or an end point of each portion of the selected one or more portions of the content item;
- receiving notification of a requesting user interaction with a user interface element associated with the content item, wherein the requesting user interaction is received via a second user interface of a requesting device;
- and
- based at least in part on the requesting user interaction, enabling display on the requesting device of the selected one or more portions of the content item according to the metadata.
A system comprising:
- processing circuitry configured to:
- receive data from a client device indicating user interface input entered via a first user interface, wherein the user interface input is associated with a content item;
- determine for each portion of a plurality of portions of the content item a respective associated volume of user interaction, wherein user interactions of each respective associated volume of user interaction are received from a plurality of client devices;
- based at least in part on the determining the respective associated volume of user interaction for each portion of the plurality of portions of the content item, select one or more portions of the plurality of portions of the content item, wherein the selected one or more portions of the plurality of portions of the content item comprises less than an entirety of the content item;
- determine metadata identifying a start point or an end point of each portion of the selected one or more portions of the content item;
- and
- communication circuitry configured to:
- receive notification of a requesting user interaction with a user interface element associated with the content item, wherein the requesting user interaction is received via a second user interface of a requesting device;
- and
- the processing circuitry is configured to:
- based at least in part on the requesting user interaction, enable display on the requesting device of the selected one or more portions of the content item according to the metadata.
