Systems and methods for using explosive expansion downhole tools to reduce amount of undesirable fluids in hydrocarbons produced via a wellbore

A method for reducing amount of an undesirable fluid in hydrocarbons produced via a wellbore extending through a subterranean formation, wherein the wellbore extends through an undesirable fluid zone of the subterranean formation containing the undesirable fluid, wherein the wellbore contains a tubular string surrounded by cement, and wherein the method comprises:

• conveying an explosive expansion tool within the wellbore until the explosive expansion tool is located along, above, or below the undesirable fluid zone;
• and
• detonating the explosive expansion tool to expand a diameter of a wall of the tubular string in a radially outward direction without puncturing the wall of the tubular string to compress the cement to thereby inhibit flow of the undesirable fluid past the compressed cement and into the wellbore.

A method for reducing an amount of an undesirable fluid in hydrocarbons produced via a wellbore extending through a subterranean formation, wherein the wellbore extends through an undesirable fluid zone of the subterranean formation containing the undesirable fluid, wherein the wellbore contains a tubular string, and wherein the method comprises:

• conveying an explosive expansion tool within the wellbore until the explosive expansion tool is positioned along, above, or below the undesirable fluid zone;
• and
• detonating the explosive expansion tool to expand a diameter of a wall of the tubular string in a radially outward direction without puncturing the wall of the tubular string to form a fluid seal along an annular space between an outer surface of the tubular string and an inner surface of the subterranean formation to inhibit flow of the undesirable fluid along the annular space and into the wellbore.
