Abstract

In some implementations, the process may include positioning a tubular mounting and dismounting apparatus about a first tubular. In addition, the process may include lowering a second tubular through a guide assembly at the top. The process may include aligning, via a stabbing guide, the second tubular with the top coupling. Moreover, the process may include generating a connection between the second tubular and the top coupling. Also, the process may include determining that the connection falls below a predetermined threshold. Further, the process may include securing the top coupling with a top jaw and the first tubular with a bottom jaw. The process may include repositioning and securing the top jaw to the second tubular and the bottom jaw to the first tubular. Moreover, the apparatus and process may include releasing the top jaw and lifting the second tubular out from the apparatus.

Dependent claims

A method for installing tubulars with a tubular mounting and dismounting apparatus, the method comprising:

positioning the tubular mounting and dismounting apparatus around a first tubular in a retracted and closed position with the first tubular and a top coupling of the first tubular extending vertically through a base of the tubular mounting and dismounting apparatus;
lowering a second tubular, via a hoist, through a guide assembly at the top the tubular mounting and dismounting apparatus where a top of the second tubular is secured to a top drive;
aligning via a stabbing guide of the tubular mounting and dismounting apparatus, the second tubular with the top coupling;
converting the tubular mounting and dismounting apparatus to an extended and open position;
and
generating a connection between the second tubular and the top coupling via the top drive.

one or more processors configured to:
position the tubular mounting and dismounting apparatus around a first tubular in a retracted and closed position with the first tubular and a top coupling of the first tubular extending vertically through a base of the tubular mounting and dismounting apparatus;
lower a second tubular, via a hoist, through a guide assembly at the top the tubular mounting and dismounting apparatus where a top of the second tubular is secured to a top drive;

convert the tubular mounting and dismounting apparatus to an extended and open position;
and
generate a connection between the second tubular and the top coupling via the top drive.
