Abstract
A vented hatch cover for covering a hatch of a railroad car can include a plurality of intake vents that communicate with a comment discharge vent. To seal against the hatch coaming of the railroad car, the vented hatch cover includes an annular gasket groove that radially separates the intake vents from the common discharge vent. To establish fluid communication between the intake vents and the common discharge vent, the vented hatch cover can define one or more radial airflow passageways configured to provide a low profile and reduce the height of the vented hatch cover.
Claims22
A vented hatch cover, comprising:
- an interior plate including an annular gasket channel concentric about a central hatch axis;
- a first intake vent and a second intake vent;
- an annular gasket channel;
- a common discharge vent circumscribed by the annular gasket channel;
- a first exterior shell attachable to the interior plate to define a first radial airflow passageway between the first and/or the second intake vent and the common discharge vent;
- and
- a second exterior shell attachable to the interior plate to define a second radial airflow passageway between the first and/or the second intake vent and the common discharge vent.
A vented hatch cover, comprising:
- an interior plate including an annular gasket channel concentric about a central hatch axis;
- a plurality of vent intakes;
- an annular gasket channel;
- a common discharge vent circumscribed by the annular gasket channel;
- an exterior cover shell attachable to the interior plate to define at least one radial airflow passageway between the plurality of intake vents and the common discharge vent.
A vented hatch cover, comprising:
- an exterior shell comprising a planar axial face that is circular and aligned to a central hatch axis and a peripheral sidewall that extends normally from the planar axial face;
- an interior plate including a peripheral edge that is configured to fit within the peripheral sidewall;
- an annular gasket channel;
- and
- a plurality of angularly spaced intake vents located between the peripheral edge and the annular gasket channel.
