Abstract
An article of footwear includes an upper attached to a sole structure. The sole structure includes a midsole having a foam material. The midsole defines a posterior segment opposite an anterior segment relative to an arch segment in a longitudinal direction. The sole structure includes a first fiber strand within the midsole and extending through at least two of the posterior segment, the anterior segment, and the arch segment. A density of the first fiber strand is between about 1.2 grams per cubic centimeter (g/cm3) and about 2.0 g/cm3.

An article of footwear, comprising:
- an upper attached to a sole structure, the sole structure including:
- a midsole including a foam material and defining a posterior segment opposite an anterior segment relative to an arch segment in a longitudinal direction;
- and
- a first fiber strand within the midsole and extending through at least two of the posterior segment, the anterior segment, and the arch segment,
- wherein a density of the first fiber strand is between about 1.2 grams per cubic centimeter (g/cm3) and about 2.0 g/cm3.
A method of manufacturing an article of footwear comprising an upper attached to a sole structure, the method comprising:
- printing a component of a midsole including at least two fiber strands;
- and
- treating the midsole by applying at least one of pressure, heat, or cooling,
- wherein the at least two fiber strands are embedded in the midsole,
- wherein, when viewed in cross-section, the at least two fiber strands are arranged between a top side, a bottom side, a lateral side, and a medial side of the component, and
- wherein the midsole includes a foam material.
A method of manufacturing an article of footwear comprising an upper and a sole structure, the method comprising:
- printing a layer of a midsole;
- printing a composite layer;
- and
- deforming the composite layer to preload the composite layer with internal stresses,
- wherein the composite layer is embedded in the midsole,
- wherein the midsole comprises a foam material, and
- wherein the internal stresses alter a stiffness of the composite layer in one or more directions.
