Abstract
A device includes a plurality of rings. Each ring has a first face, a second face, and at least one slot defined by first and second interior edges of the ring on opposing sides of the slot. The at least one slot penetrates from the first face to the second face. The first face of each ring has a first recess adjacent the slot on the first edge and a second recess adjacent the slot on the second edge. A plurality of posts join each one of the plurality of rings to an adjacent one of the plurality of rings.
Claims22
A method for positioning a leg of a patient comprising:
- coupling a first device in a first opening defined by a ring of a fixator, the first device comprising:
- an elongated post having a body with a first end, a second end, a first face, a second face disposed opposite the first face, at least one longitudinal slot defined by the body from the first face to the second face, a mounting surface at the second end of the body, and a first threaded portion, wherein the first threaded portion is sized to attach the elongated post to the fixator with a first nut, and
- a fixation device having a head defining a second slot sized and configured to receive a wire, a second threaded portion extending from the head, and a gripping portion configured to secure a wire within the slot, wherein the second threaded portion is configured to be secured to one of the faces of the elongated body through the at least one longitudinal slot with a second nut, wherein coupling the first device includes inserting the first threaded portion into the first opening until the mounting surface contacts the ring and coupling the second threaded portion to the first threaded portion;
- positioning the fixator around the leg;
- and
- securing the first device to the fixator.
A circular fixator system comprising:
- a plurality of rings including an elongated ring having a proximal portion and a distal portion, the distal portion rigidly attachable to the proximal portion in a first position in which the distal portion is at least one of parallel to and coplanar with the proximal portion and in a second position in which the distal portion is at a non-zero angle with respect to the proximal portion;
- and
- a clip, releasably attachable to a wire or pin, that is carried by the rings configured to hold a sponge against a patient, the clip including a body having a longitudinal axis, a tubular sidewall integrally attached to a perimeter of the body, and defining a slot that extends substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis and communicating with the tubular sidewall, the body further including first and second tubular gripping surfaces further defining the slot, the second tubular gripping surface having an inner diameter different from an inner diameter of the first tubular gripping surface, and first and second end surfaces, the first end surface perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and the second end surface oriented at an oblique angle relative to the longitudinal axis.
A method comprising:
- configuring an elongated ring of a circular fixator by rigidly attaching a distal portion of the elongated ring to a proximal portion of the elongated ring in a first position in which the distal portion is at least one of parallel to and coplanar with the proximal portion or in a second position in which the distal portion is at a non-zero angle with respect to the proximal portion;
- positioning the circular fixator around a limb;
- inserting at least one wire or pin into the limb;
- and
- attaching a clip to at least one of the wire and the pin, the clip including a body defining a longitudinal slot, first and second tubular gripping surfaces further defining the slot and having different inner diameters, and first and second end surfaces respectively perpendicular and oblique to a longitudinal axis of the body, the attaching step including selecting one of the tubular gripping surfaces based on a diameter of the wire or pin and orienting one of the end surfaces toward a wound site to press a sponge against tissue.
