• The extraction device according to claim 1, wherein the side wall of the upstream pod enclosing part is held by and able to slide between two lateral sheets, each of the lateral sheets attached to a first fixed transverse end axis and a second fixed transverse front axis,
• wherein the common actuator comprises:
• a knee-joint mechanism comprising two symmetric assemblies of a push rod and a crank, each crank attached to the transverse end axis, and each rod attached to the side wall of the upstream pod enclosing part, and
• a nut device configured to be displaced by a spindle,
• wherein lateral parts of the nut device are designed to engage and slide in guiding curves designed in the cranks of the knee-joint mechanism.

• A beverage preparation machine comprising an extraction device, the extraction device comprising:
• upstream and downstream pod enclosing parts, wherein the upstream pod enclosing part is translatable along a horizontal longitudinal axis between an open position for inserting and removing the pod and a closed position for forming an extraction chamber enclosing the pod during extraction,
• the upstream pod enclosing part defining a cage and comprising piercing elements for piercing a bottom wall of the pod, and the upstream pod enclosing part comprising liquid outlet openings,
• the downstream pod enclosing part comprising a plate transverse to the longitudinal axis, the plate comprising a downstream plane piercing arrangement for opening a lid of the pod, and
• a pod holder configured to hold the pod between the upstream and downstream pod enclosing parts when the upstream and downstream pod enclosing parts are in the open position, the pod holder configured to hold the lid of the pod in front of the downstream plane piercing arrangement, and
• wherein, in the upstream pod enclosing part, the cage comprises:
• a side wall extending between an opened front end and a back end along a cage longitudinal axis, the side wall translatable between the open position and the closed position, and
• an end wall transverse to the longitudinal axis of the cage, the end wall presenting a front face, the front face bearing the piercing elements and the liquid outlet openings, wherein the end wall is movable longitudinally inside the side wall of the cage of the upstream pod enclosing part,
• wherein the side wall and the end wall are actuated by one common motor and a common actuator, the common actuator connected to the side wall and to the end wall so that, when the upstream pod enclosing part is translated from the open position to the closed position:
• first, the side wall is translated from the open position to the closed position to form the extraction chamber around the pod, and
• then, the end wall is moved inside the side wall from a backward position up to a frontward position to pierce the bottom wall of the pod.

• A system Sy-stem comprising an extraction device and pods of different sizes,
• wherein each of the pods comprises:
• a pod body, the pod body comprising a side wall and a bottom wall defining a chamber, and
• a top lid closing the top opening of the pod body,
• wherein the pods differ by depths of the side walls,
• the extraction device comprising:
• upstream and downstream pod enclosing parts, wherein the upstream pod enclosing part is translatable along a horizontal longitudinal axis between an open position for inserting and removing the pod and a closed position for forming an extraction chamber enclosing the pod during extraction,
• the upstream pod enclosing part defining a cage and comprising piercing elements for piercing a bottom wall of the pod, and the upstream pod enclosing part comprising liquid outlet openings,
• the downstream pod enclosing part comprising a plate transverse to the longitudinal axis, the plate comprising a downstream plane piercing arrangement for opening a lid of the pod, and
• a pod holder configured to hold the pod between the upstream and downstream pod enclosing parts when the upstream and downstream pod enclosing parts are in the open position, the pod holder configured to hold the lid of the pod in front of the downstream plane piercing arrangement, and
• wherein, in the upstream pod enclosing part, the cage comprises:
• a side wall extending between an opened front end and a back end along a cage longitudinal axis, the side wall translatable between the open position and the closed position, and
