Knitted component, upper, and article of footwear with knitted raised structures

Abstract

Knitted components, uppers, and articles of footwear that include raised structures having grip and traction qualities in which the raised structures are formed using a knitting process, and methods of manufacturing knitted components, uppers, and articles of footwear. Uppers can include an inner knit component and an outer knit component positioned overtop the inner knit component. The outer knit component can include at least a first knitted raised structure that extends outwardly a first height from a knitted base area; the first knitted raised structure may be one of a plurality of discrete knitted raised structures that extend outwardly from the knitted base area the first height; and an outer-facing surface of the first knitted raised structure has one or more of a higher concentration of thermoplastic elastomer and/or a higher coefficient of friction than an outer-facing surface of the knitted base area.
