Techniques for block-order traversal of files

An apparatus, comprising:

• one or more memories storing processor-executable code;
• and
• one or more processors coupled with the one or more memories and individually or collectively operable to execute the code to cause the apparatus to:
• access a snapshot of a target client object comprising a plurality of files stored at a data management system;
• generate an index file for the plurality of files based at least in part on metadata associated with the snapshot, the index file comprising a mapping between a respective file path for each file and extent information indicating respective storage locations of one or more file blocks for each file;
• and
• read a plurality of sequentially-located physical extents for one or more files of the plurality of files included in the snapshot using a sliding window in accordance with the mapping.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing code, the code comprising instructions executable by one or more processors to:

• access a snapshot of a target client object comprising a plurality of files stored at a data management system;
• generate an index file for the plurality of files based at least in part on metadata associated with the snapshot, the index file comprising a mapping between a respective file path for each file and extent information indicating respective storage locations of one or more file blocks for each file;
• and
• read a plurality of sequentially-located physical extents for one or more files of the plurality of files included in the snapshot using a sliding window in accordance with the mapping.
