Abstract
Weapons and weapon components with surface coatings are described. A surface of the weapon or weapon component can include a surface coating. The surface coating can include many different materials and may include a metal or metal alloy such as, for example, a molybdenum alloy, a nickel alloy or a molybdenum nickel alloy. Methods of producing the surface coatings including electrodeposition methods are also described.

A barrel configured to receive and launch a projectile, the barrel comprising a cylindrical substrate comprising a bore, wherein a surface of the bore comprises a coated surface, wherein the coated surface comprises a surface coating, and wherein the surface coating comprises an alloy layer comprising (i) molybdenum or tungsten and (ii) at least one element selected from the group consisting of nickel, cobalt, chromium, tin, phosphorous, iron, magnesium and boron or at least one compound comprising one or more of nickel, cobalt, chromium, tin, phosphorous, iron, magnesium or boron.
