Abstract
The present disclosure relates to delivery systems for delivering and deploying interventional devices to a targeted area within a body, such as delivering a replacement heart valve to a targeted heart valve. A delivery device includes a steerable catheter and a replacement valve delivery system positioned within the steerable catheter and configured to be translatable within the steerable catheter. The steerable catheter includes one or more control wires running from a distal end of the catheter to a handle at the proximal end of the catheter. Each control wire is coupled to a control of the handle such that manipulation of the control provides deflection and control of the steerable catheter.
Claims20
A catheter system, comprising:
- a catheter;
- a handle operably coupled to the catheter;
- a steering actuator coupled to the handle;
- a control wire extending through the catheter, the control wire being operably coupled to the steering actuator;
- a motor operably coupled to the control wire;
- and
- a sensor operably coupled to the motor and being configured to detect a threshold amount of user applied input;
- wherein the catheter system is configured such that (i) upon actuation of the steering actuator in a first direction, tension is applied to the control wire to deflect a distal end of the catheter, and (ii) upon the sensor detecting the threshold amount of user applied input, the sensor triggers actuation of the motor to assist in tensioning the control wire.
A system for implanting a cardiac implant, the system comprising:
- the cardiac implant;
- a catheter;
- a handle operably coupled to the catheter;
- first and second steering actuators coupled to the handle;
- first and second control wires extending through the catheter, the first control wire being operably coupled to the first steering actuator, the second control wire being operably coupled to the second steering actuator;
- first and second motors, the first motor being operably coupled to the first control wire, the second motor being operably coupled to the second control wire;
- and
- first and second sensors, the first sensor being operably coupled to the first motor and being configured to detect a first threshold amount of user applied input, the second sensor being operably coupled to the second motor and being configured to detect a second threshold amount of user applied input;
- wherein the catheter system is configured such that (i) upon actuation of the first steering actuator in a first tension direction, tension is applied to the first control wire to deflect a distal end of the catheter in a medial-lateral direction, and (ii) upon the first sensor detecting the first threshold amount of user applied input, the first sensor triggers actuation of the first motor to assist in tensioning the first control wire;
- and
- wherein the catheter system is configured such that (i) upon actuation of the second steering actuator in a second tension direction, tension is applied to the second control wire to deflect the distal end of the catheter in an anterior-posterior direction, and (ii) upon the second sensor detecting the second threshold amount of user applied input, the second sensor triggers actuation of the second motor to assist in tensioning the second control wire.
A method of implanting a cardiac implant into a patient, the method comprising:
- inserting a catheter into a patient and advancing the catheter through vasculature of the patient until a distal end of the catheter reaches a heart of the patient, the catheter being operably coupled to a handle;
- while the distal end of the catheter is within the heart, applying at least a threshold amount of user input to a steering actuator on the handle to tension a control wire that extends through the catheter to deflect the distal end of the catheter;
- and
- after deflecting the distal end of the catheter, deploying the cardiac implant from the catheter into the heart of the patient;
- wherein upon applying at least the threshold amount of user applied input, a sensor that is operably coupled to a motor detects the threshold amount of user applied input and triggers the motor to actuate to assist in tensioning the control wire.
