Abstract
A hooded garment device includes a hooded garment which has a hood that can be worn over a user's head when the user is wearing the hooded garment. The hooded garment has an aperture extending through the hood to facilitate the user's longer hair to be extended through the aperture when the hood is worn over the user's head thereby enhancing fitment of the hood on the user's head. An elastomeric band is integrated into the hood which is positioned to surround the aperture. The elastomeric band biases the aperture into a minimum diameter to limit the passage of air through the aperture when the hood is worn over the user's head to assist with keeping the user's head warm.
Claims7
A hooded garment device having an aperture extending through a hood for accommodating a ponytail or a bun of a user's hair to enhance fitment of said hood, said device comprising:
- a hooded garment configured for covering a torso and having a hood wherein said hood is configured to be worn over a user's head when the user is wearing said hooded garment, said hooded garment having an aperture extending through said hood wherein said aperture is configured to facilitate the user's hair to be extended through said aperture when said hood is worn over the user's head thereby enhancing fitment of said hood on the user's head;
- and
- an elastomeric band being integrated into said hood, said elastomeric band being positioned to surround said aperture, said elastomeric band biasing said aperture into a minimum diameter wherein said elastomeric band is configured to limit the passage of air through said aperture when said hood is worn over the user's head to assist with keeping the user's head warm.
A hooded garment device having an aperture extending through a hood for accommodating a ponytail or a bun of a user's hair to enhance fitment of said hood, said device comprising:
- a hooded garment configured for covering a torso and having a hood wherein said hood is configured to be worn over a user's head when the user is wearing said hooded garment, said hooded garment having an aperture extending through said hood wherein said aperture is configured to facilitate the user's hair to be extended through said aperture when said hood is worn over the user's head thereby enhancing fitment of said hood on the user's head, said hood having a front edge defining an opening into said hood and a rear wall extending between said front edge and a neck of said hooded garment, said rear wall being concavely arcuate with respect to said front edge wherein said hood is configured to conform to curvature of the user's head when said hood is worn over the user's head having said opening defined by said front edge exposing the user's face, said aperture extending through an inner surface and an outer surface of said rear wall, said aperture being centrally located on an apex of said rear wall wherein said aperture is configured to be strategically located to facilitate the user's hair to be comfortably extended through said aperture when said hood is worn over the user's head;
- and
- an elastomeric band being integrated into said hood, said elastomeric band being positioned to surround said aperture, said elastomeric band biasing said aperture into a minimum diameter wherein said elastomeric band is configured to limit the passage of air through said aperture when said hood is worn over the user's head to assist with keeping the user's head warm, said elastomeric band being continuously arcuate such that said elastomeric band forms a closed ring, said elastomeric band being positioned between said inner surface and said outer surface of said hood, said elastomeric band being aligned with a bounding edge of said aperture thereby facilitating said elastomeric band to bias said bounding edge inwardly toward a center of said aperture thereby defining a minimum diameter of said aperture, said elastomeric band being stretchable to facilitate said bounding edge to be moved outwardly away from said center of said aperture thereby facilitating said aperture to be widened into a maximum diameter wherein said elastomeric band is configured to assist the user with passing their hair through said aperture, said elastomeric band biasing said bounding edge to collapse around the user's hair when the user's hair is passed through said aperture wherein said elastomeric band is configured to inhibit air from passing between the user's hair and said bounding edge of said aperture.
A method of modifying a hood of a hooded garment to accommodate a user's longer hair to be passed through said hood, the steps of the method comprising:
- inserting pins through a hood of a hooded garment such that said pins are arranged to define a rectangle aligned with an apex of said hood;
- positioning a cut disk on an apex of a hood of a hooded garment such that said cut disk is surrounded by said pins;
- marking a cut line on said hood which extends around said cut disk;
- removing said cut disk from said hood;
- positioning a fold disk on said apex of said hood such that said fold disk covers said cut line;
- marking a fold line on said hood which forms a concentric circle with said cut line such;
- removing said fold disk from said hood;
- cutting along said cut line such that an aperture is defined in said hood;
- placing an elastomeric band on an inside surface of said hood such that said elastomeric band is positioned between said fold line and a bounding edge of said aperture;
- inserting pins through said elastomeric band for retaining said elastomeric band on said outer surface of said hood;
- folding said hood along said fold line such that said hood is folded over said elastomeric band to define a flap which covers said elastomeric band;
- sewing said flap to said hood around a partial diameter of said flap;
- stretching said aperture into its full diameter;
- sewing ends of said elastomeric band together;
- and
- completing sewing around said diameter of said flap.
