An input device includes a housing, a three-axis force sensor, and a control unit. The three-axis force sensor is disposed on a surface of the housing and detects a shearing force and a pressing force applied to an operation surface by a finger or a palm. The control unit calculates component forces of the shearing force, respectively, for a plurality of input directions allocated in a plane of the operation surface. The control unit further calculates time change amounts with respect to the component forces and a pressing force. Then, for example, when a time change amount exceeds a threshold in one component force, since a time change amount of the pressing force at that time is positive, the control unit activates an event on the assumption that an input has been performed in a direction to which the component force is allocated.
