An energy absorbing device comprising:
- a plurality of cylindrical base members;
- a plurality of metallic helical bands coaxially located around a common longitudinal axis congruent to each other, the plurality of helical bands having a bottom end connected to a bottom base member and a top end connected to a top base;
- and
- a plurality of connecting members located and attached between the plurality of cylindrical helical members along the longitudinal axis.
