Abstract
The present disclosure is directed to a forming wire having a pattern printed thereon. The printed pattern is formed from a rigid plastic, exhibits a pattern height of greater than 0.8 mm, and contains microscale gaps spaced apart in the machine direction that are not visible in a flat orientation. Due at least in part to the microscale gaps, as well as their manner of manufacturing, the forming wire of the present disclosure is capable of extending around idler rolls having a diameter as small as 7.5 mm.
Claims20
A forming wire comprising:
- a substrate having a top surface, a bottom surface opposite to the top surface, an x-y plane, and a thickness extending from the bottom surface to the top surface in a z-direction perpendicular to the x-y plane, the substrate comprising a plurality of filaments and voids between the filaments;
- a plurality of discrete sections comprising at least a first section and a second section, each section comprising a continuous pattern disposed on the substrate, wherein the continuous pattern has a pattern height of greater than 0.8mm;
- and
- a microscale gap disposed between each discrete section of the plurality of discrete sections.
