Abstract
Thioalcohols are useful for dissolving and removing aldehyde-containing deposits from conduit and/or volumes that are clogged or blocked by the aldehyde-containing deposits, and also to prevent or inhibit aldehydes from polymerizing or otherwise forming aldehyde-containing deposits within conduits and/or volumes.
Claims20
A method for at least partially removing aldehyde-containing deposits within a conduit and/or volume comprising:
- injecting a thioalcohol solvent into the conduit and/or volume in an amount effective to at least partially remove the aldehyde-containing deposits from the conduit and/or volume;
- contacting the aldehyde-containing deposits within the conduit and/or volume with the thioalcohol solvent for an amount of time to at least partially dissolve the aldehyde-containing deposits;
- and
- removing the dissolved aldehyde-containing deposits from the conduit and/or volume.
A method for removing aldehyde-containing deposits from a conduit and/or volume comprising:
- introducing an aldehyde into the conduit and/or volume, where polymerization of the aldehyde forms the aldehyde-containing deposits, wherein the aldehyde is selected from the group consisting of formaldehyde, glyoxal, cinnamaldehyde, ortho-phthalaldehyde, malonaldehyde, succinaldehyde, adipaldehyde, and combinations thereof;
- contacting the aldehyde-containing deposits with a thioalcohol solvent in an amount effective to dissolve the aldehyde-containing deposits;
- and
- removing the dissolved aldehyde-containing deposits from the conduit and/or volume with the thioalcohol solvent.
A method for removing aldehyde-containing deposits within a conduit and/or volume comprising:
- contacting the aldehyde-containing deposits with a thioalcohol solvent in an amount effective and for an amount of time to dissolve the aldehyde-containing deposits;
- and
- removing the dissolved aldehyde-containing deposits from the conduit and/or volume with the thioalcohol solvent.
