Hvac kinematics to mitigate mechanical hysteresis

An air-handling system for a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system of a motor vehicle having a passenger compartment, the air-handling system comprising:

• a main housing having one or more selectively positionable doors rotatably disposed therein;
• and
• a control mechanism including a first cam gear rotatable about a rotational axis, wherein the first cam gear includes a cam track formed on a first face thereof, wherein a shape of the cam track determines a rotational position of at least one of the one or more selectively positionable doors, wherein the cam track includes a first end, a second end, and a continuous path extending between the first end and the second end, and wherein the continuous path includes at least one at least one radially outward segment having a distance from the rotational axis greater than a distance from the rotational axis of a leading portion of the continuous path and a distance from the rotational axis of a trailing portion of the continuous path.
